When I discovered a drawing that the author uploaded on Instagram 3 or 4 years (!) ago I was so smitten with the character portrayed (Javier) that I knew I HAD to read the book when it came out. I was giddy with excitement when I received the eARC and could not put it down. Yeah, I didn't get much sleep for the last few days but it was so worth it. The story takes place in a near-future, post-flood London and is told from 3 different POVs which makes it even easier to fall in love with these amazing characters. The ones I could identify with the most were Ethan and Javier. Ethan, a healer at St. Ophie's General Hospital with a bare social life who is generally hungry, sleepy, a little clumsy and doesn't like a lot of people and Javier, Director at the Arden Foundation who loves ballet and the arts and is determined to keep the fact that he is an empath a secret. (I'm basically a mixture of both of them lol) Their love for each other was an incredibly beautiful thing to witness especially after all the vile shit Jav had to endure. He's like a little kitten you want to protect at all costs and whenever someone hurt him it crushed my heart and soul. I mean, come on, just give him the happiness and affection he deserves!!! The author has such a talent for bringing emotions to life that some of the scenes gave me major anxiety. There's death, trauma, blackmailing, drugs, physical and emotional abuse, organised crime, cartels, capitalism, you name it. It never ever gets boring or dull. Other characters I loved were Vegas, Nick, Oliver and Stephen. Their banter made me laugh so much. The one person I wasn't sure about was Rina. I'm quite positive that all three of Jav's sisters love him fiercely but their way of showing it (or not showing it) is a little weird at times. Since the ending leaves a lot of room for speculation (and because I can't get enough of Jav and Ethan) I desperately hope for a sequel at one point. Yes, I'm talking to you, Frances :) Can't wait to get my hands on the illustrated novel in April!!
