It's a good entry point for a new series, that's for sure! I really liked the setting (I don't know what it is exactly but small towns just have their charm) and the side characters - I'll definitely continue the series and I'm REALLY excited for some of these stories. A nonbinary character in a small town romance coming up? A throuple? With ace rep? I'll love that, that's for sure! As for this book: I loved several aspects and it was really heartwarming overall. The co-parenting was gorgeous, the perspective to find new love after your loved one dies is so beautiful and was executed well, and I love stories unfolding over several years or rather decades. I did have problems with the pining and the pacing tho - Wyatt's pining over Easton was very painful from the beginning, so when he was like 12, and I love that as it's usually gorgeous to see them have their happy ending. <spoiler>But it just was a too long time period - I talked to a friend and was surprised it'd be ten more years of pining after Wyatt and Easton basically co-parented and lived together already. And then Wyatt gets together with someone else for another two years and hurts this other person in the process? It just was a bit unnecessary and could have been avoided by just being open with each other? Especially considering Easton also realizes he has feelings for Wyatt before he's officially in a relationship with someone else? When Easton says "Wyatt and Harrison have been dating for two months now" I literally wanted to throw my kindle. On the other hand I really kinda appreciated Easton not coming forward while Wyatt was in a relationship, that would also have been weird. And I was super invested for them both for most part, but after this it was less excitement about them finally getting together, and that's a bit sad. Also I wished there would have been more talking about Easton possibly being demisexual, it gets mentioned once by Wyatt in an internal monologue that Easton might be demi, but it isn't elaborated and they don't talk about it. I just love every demi/acespec rep there is! </spoiler>I shed a few tears over a specific scene, so it really is emotional as hell, please read the TWs. Overall it's a solid childhood best friends to lovers book! With a bit of an oblivious MC and hurting each other in the process.
