Aufgrund des Schreibstils und des ständigen POV Wechsels, war es wirklich anstrengend, der Geschichte anfangs zu folgen, aber die Reihe hatte einen gewissen Charme, weswegen ich wissen wollte, wie es weiter geht und ab Band 2 war es auch bereits viel angenehmer. Die gesamte Lore bezüglich der Reinkarnation, den Göttern, etc. hat mich förmlich überrannt und irgendwann kam ich nicht mehr mit, nachdem im ersten Band manche Dinge so offensichtlich gewesen sind. Manchmal entdeckte Zhao Yunlan Lösungen, da hatte ich nichtmals die leiseste Ahnung, wie er überhaupt auf den Gedanken gekommen ist. Die Erklärungen gegen Ende haben es aber gut abgerundet, dass man trotzdem das Wichtigste verstanden hat. Den Protagonisten find ich super. Er ist teasy, sassy und weiß, was er will. Zudem wird in diesem Danmei seine Sexualität offen erwähnt, was ich in anderen bisher eher weniger erlebt habe. Shen Wei und seine Beziehung ist sehr knuffig und vor allem lustig, dennoch fand ich, dass sie etwas zu kurz gekommen ist. Ich hätte gerne mehr Momente zwischen ihnen gehabt, die nichts mit ihrer Arbeit oder ihrer Vergangenheit zu tun haben. Für mich hatte bei den ersten zwei Volumen immer etwas für die vier Sterne gefehlt und erst dachte ich, dass es beim letzten Band nicht anders sein würde, aber der Fall, an dem Chu Shuzhi und Guo Changcheng gearbeitet haben, hat mich komplett überzeugt. An einer Stelle wurde ich vielleicht auch kurz ein mini bisschen emotional. Allgemein lieb ich die Entwicklung zwischen den beiden sehr. Die Nebencharaktere, die mit Zhao zusammenarbeiten, sind alle interessante Individuen, wo ich mir gewünscht hätte, dass sie etwas mehr hätten zur Story beitragen können. Durch die extra Stories bin ich praktisch geflogen. Am Ende hat mich die Reihe nicht umgehauen, doch hab ich sie gern gelesen und weitere Reihen von Priest würde ich nicht abschlagen. Jetzt wird sich zunächst aber die Live action angeschaut, auf die bin ich schon sehr gespannt!

I think I have the most complaints about this volume, but all in all, I enjoyed the series. This volume has the most lore (and apparently plotting), but it was confusing for me. We get told the right backstory after hearing the partly fake one, but I couldn't tell you what those fake parts were. I was like, "Isn't this just the same story?" 😅 There were just so many details, it was hard to keep up. Then, a character supposedly had this elaborate plan, and it all worked out, but I didn't even realize he was plotting something or why he couldn't just tell the other person 🤷🏻‍♂️ The "endfight"/"defeating the villain" was really unspectacular (the whole end was too quick), and some things that got revealed felt random or were not explained in detail. It was just kinda like, "Yeah, it's like that" (like that thing with Guo Changcheng?). Speaking of Guo Changcheng, I did like his friendship with Chu Shuzhi. Their little soul collecting trip was actually the only storyline that got me emotional. I love the relationship of Shen Wein and Zhao Yunlan, but the focus was so much on the other stuff here that there weren't as many moments. That emotional scene at the end of the main story didn't really get me because I was mad at what was happening xD Therefore, I did enjoy most of the bonus chapters. The last two were a bit weird/sad but interesting (that last one though, wtf. wdym over 10.000 years 😭). All in all, a series I enjoyed, but wasn't a highlight. Too much confusing backstory and a quick ending. It should have focused more on its strong points: Charming characters with witty conversations. I loved their banter, also with the side characters (Daquing is the best 🐈‍⬛).
