3.75 I enjoyed this a lot, the world building and creatures as well as the magic system were so enjoyable and it was fast-faced and easy to understand. The main character, Amare, was witty and brilliant and a badass most of the time, though I gotta say that I sometimes really thought she was such a bad friend, saying things about and to Shoa. Im aware that she never had a real friend before, but I still felt bad about it. Shoa was such a nice side character. Finn was nice, though I would’ve wished he had a more present part in the book. his brother, Lukas, on the other hand, was unbearable. more to that in the spoiler part. SPOILER!! I though it weird how Lukas (who is 20 now while Amare is 17) had this obsession with Amare when she was !!13!! and he was 16 so that age gap was so weird. He never stopped looking for her so what is that. I get how Amare has this crush on him, but I really hope they won’t get together in the next book. The same for Shoa, as cute as it is for her to have a cute little teenage crush on the pirate queen, she is much older than her and it would be disgusting, as long as Amare and Shoa are still minors, and even then, this weird obsession sidens Lukas would still give me the icks. Overall I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to reading the sequel.
