The Lies We Steal war für mich wirklich ein schönes Buch für zwischendurch. Besonders Allister mochte ich unglaublich gerne. Aufmerksam, charmant und einfach absoluter Bookboyfriend-Material. <3 Der Schreibstil ließ sich super angenehm lesen und die Atmosphäre hat mir ebenfalls gefallen. Trotzdem hat mir an manchen Stellen etwas die Spannung gefehlt, weshalb mich die Geschichte emotional nicht komplett mitreißen konnte. Insgesamt trotzdem ein gutes Buch, das ich gerne gelesen habe, daher 4 Sterne.

The Lies We Steal is the first book in the Hollow Boys series, and I honestly have to say that it was a very strong start to the series. The book reminded me of Corrupt by Penelope Douglas because of its dark atmosphere and intense character dynamics. The story itself was not my absolute favorite, but it was definitely not bad either. It kept me interested and curious about what would happen next. I personally would have liked to see more between Briar and Allistar as a couple, since their relationship had a lot of potential and both are really interesting characters. However, I am extremely excited for the next books in the series—especially for Thatcher’s story. The Hollow Boys have definitely already pulled me into their dark, damaged World🖤

The Lies We Steal ist der erste Band der „Hollow Boys“-Reihe von Monty Jay und hat mich insgesamt sehr überzeugt. Besonders gut hat mir der Schreibstil der Autorin gefallen: Er ist emotional, bildhaft und bringt einem die Gefühle und Gedanken der Figuren sehr nah. Monty Jay erklärt viele Situationen und Hintergründe so klar und eindrücklich, dass man tief in die Geschichte eintauchen kann. Die beiden Hauptfiguren, Alistair Caldwell und Briar Lowell, haben beide eine spannende, gut nachvollziehbare Vergangenheit. Ihre Gedanken und Handlungen wirken realistisch, was sie sehr greifbar macht. Auch die Nebencharaktere sind nicht oberflächlich, sondern haben Tiefe und eigene Geschichten, die neugierig auf die weiteren Teile der Reihe machen. Was mir weniger gut gefallen hat, waren die Rechtschreibfehler, die immer wieder im Buch auftauchen. Sie stören zwar nicht komplett den Lesefluss, fallen aber auf und hätten leicht vermieden werden können.

Ich hatte richtig hohe Erwartungen an The lies we steal, bei dehne ich mir auch schon etwas gedacht habe, das sie nicht ganz erfüllt werden könne. Das Buch hat richtig Stark angefangen und die ersten 100 Seiten hab ich auch nichts auszusetzen gehabt. Danach hat es aber leider etwas nachgelassen und ich kann gar nicht genau sagen woran es lag. Briar mochte ich sehr gern, sie war mir extrem sympathisch und fand gut das sie nicht das sie mal kein Good Girl ist. Ihre Charakter Entwicklung und die Art wie sie mit Situation umgeht war realistisch. Mir hat auch sehr gut gefallen wie man durch sie die Welt auf natürliche Weise kennenlernt und es sich nicht wie eine langweilige Erklärung anfühlt. Allister fand ich auch richtig interessant und mochte das er einende Grund hat wieso er so ist. Die Romance Story der beiden hatte auch richtig viel potenzial, leider wurde das aber überhaupt nicht ausgenutzt. Ich hab die Tension kaum gemerkt, was daran lag das die Romane Story einfach viel zu spät anfängt. Mir hatte es besser gefallen wenn sie präsenter gewesen wäre und mehr Zeit bekommen hätte. Was ich auch noch Positiv anmerken möchte ist, das ich bei diesem Dark Romance Buch noch am meisten das Gefühl hatte, das die Frauen respektvoll behandelt wurden. Ich mochte das Buch auf jeden Fall gern, kann aber noch keine Empfehlung aussprechen. Ich werde die Reihe weiterlesen und dann entscheiden ob es sich lohnt.

3.75 Stars ⭐️ I have only one thing to say to all the people that compare this to Corrupt. How dare you disrespect Corrupt like that?! First of all, this book needs an editor. Badly. It rarely bothers me of there are some mistakes and often times I don't even notice. With this one, I definitely noticed. There were so many misspelled or missing words that I had to reread so many sentences. I hope that this was an issue with the first book. It also felt like all the scenes were written apart from another and then pieced together into a storyline later because some of the chapter ended at a point and then the next chapter had such a random starting point that I really didn't get what was happening for a moment. Overall I liked it when I was reading it but it definitely had it's flaws. The main characters rarely interacted up to the 55% mark which made it hard for me to root for them. And then suddenly they were all in love because they fucked? Uhm, okay but I'm not buying it and that is also why I hate the comparison to Devil's Night. Yes, the overall topic is similar but in Devil's Night all the couples had such a deep connection even when they hated each other at the start. With this one, I didn't feel that way. I liked Alistar right from the start though. The first chapter where he beat up that guy was enough for me to fall for him. Briar was a different story. There was basically nothing interesting about her. She was just ... there. Which is sad because as a thief with a hard past she did have potential. The whole murder mystery was great though and I would love to see that storyline progress. Overall, I hope that the next books are better. Not that this wasn't enjoyable because it was but I expected more with what everyone was saying. Especially since so many people compared it to Devil's Night. That teaser in the last chapter from Rooks POV seemed promising. Seems like he hated Sage and I'm a sucker for bad boy x golden girl enemies to lovers. So crossing my fingers to get my fix there.

Das Buch muss ich sagen hat mich nicht wirklich mitreißen können. Obwohl ich die Story selber eigentlich richtig mochte und spannend fand, fand ich das in dem Buch alles sehr schnell voranging. Es gab teilweise Kapitel ohne richtigen „Übergang“ sag ich jetzt einfach und man hätte da viel mehr draus machen können, um die Leser zu binden. Das ist nur meine Meinung. Ich weiß nicht ob es nur mir so ging aber ich hatte auch so ungefähr ab 60-70% des Buches das Gefühl als hätte der Schreibstil sich komplett geändert und jemand anderes hätte dann bis zu 80% geschrieben, was mich dann dieses Buch pausieren lies. Man kann sagen, ich hatte eine kurze Leseflaute. Deswegen werde ich es wahrscheinlich erstmal bei diesem Buch aus der Buchreihe belassen und mich an ein anderes wenden. Aber wie gesagt, die Story selbst ist spannend.
