I am working my way through the throne of glass series, and took a detour to the read assassins blade. I should have continued with Queen of shadows. The Assassins blade is a short story collection that happens before the throne of glass, the first book in the series. And I’m not sure what I’m meant to get from this book. It just feels like filler, expanding background things that dident need a story. It kinda feels like the worst of stars wars where they have to explain everything that lead a person to a certain point. It’s a prequel that feels like filler. There are no revelations, no new understanding of Celaena. There are just things that happens, that don’t have any bearing to the rest of the series. It feels like repeating character growth from book one two and three. What also makes it worse for me is that I dident like Celaena in book one, it was at the end of book 3 that I kinda started to like her. So to return to a earlier point in her life which just reminds me how much I dident like her in book one just makes this book drag. My favorite story was the assassin and the desert, and that story is half way in the book, and the story’s that come after are just a drag. If you really need more throne of glass after finishing the series, then sure you can read this. But I think you will get more out of reading fan fiction of throne of glass. 2 out of 5.
