4.5⭐ I want to start by saying I really enjoyed this book, as you can see by the high rating. I liked the main characters and they were very sweet together. However, I do have some issues with the way Asexuality was portrayed. Yes, accurate definitions were used and it was explained that every asexual person is different and some are comfortable with having sex and others don't even want kissing - that was not my problem. But I think Jae made it easy for herself, since she chose to write about a ace character that IS comfortable with cuddling, kissing and even having sex. Why not change it up a little and write about a character who actually DOESN'T want to have sex? My biggest issue probably is that there indeed is a sex scene (with warning, which was appreciated and I feel like more authors should try) but I feel like this was the perfect opportunity to write a book with 0 spice. 99% of the books I read have spice in them and it is so incredibly hard to find sapphic books with no spice. I found the sex scene extremely unnecessary, I feel like she just wanted to please her allosexual readers. The book starts with Holly not wanting or thinking about sex but towards the end she starts to want sex, which some ace people do, but why change her character? It sends the message that ace people who don't want sex will find someone who'll change them or that asexual people have to compromise and have sex every now and then to be in a "healthy" relationship. Just my opinion as a ace lesbian who isn't comfortable/interested in sex.
