I must admit that overall, this second book did not have me in a chokehold like book 1 did - but I was very much invested in the characters and the world. Turncloak pulled me right back into Atherin, and I loved every second of it. I enjoyed all the new twists and turns that were added. The flashbacks to the past added a mystery aspect, and I had so much fun trying to find out what they meant. And believe me, the conclusion to them will not leave you feeling dissapointed. What I absolutely love is the way L.K. Steven writes, and she has become an auto-read author for me by this point. It's just so immersive and rich, I can't get enough of it. Admittedly, I was confused at times while reading, but only due to the very welcome complexity of the world and plot. So if you will, it was a good kind of confusion. The ending...oh the ending left me absolutely gutted and open-mouthed at the same time. I ugly-cried and I was so glad I had the honor of buddyreading this with @old.enough.for.fairy.tales Now I truly cannot wait for the next book. A brilliant sequel that deepened my love for this world and its characters. 4.5/5 stars Thank you to @NetGalley and @DelReyBooks for the eARC! #Turncloak #Bookstagram #NetGalley

Turncloak by L.K. Steven

WHAT THE HELL??? It seemed almost impossible to follow the perfection that was Silvercloak, but she not only followed it, but doubled and tripled it and made this book even more breathtaking. I truly was not able to put this story down and every minute away trom it was paintul, because I needed to know what would happen to my hopeless lovebirds Saff and Levan. I liked their journey in this book. It was filled with lots of hardships, grief, anger and hurt, which made the lighter and happier moments that much more precious to me. Also, how fun were the new POVs?? I am usually pretty skeptical of more than 2 POVs in a book, but this was done so so well. Every perspective was so distinctively different from each other and opened up a whole new angle to the overall story with lots of lore (not the boring kind, I promise!), background informations regarding our main characters and twists I did not see coming until they smacked me in the face. I will scream about this series for the rest of my days and yes, l am in fact already greedy for the next book, but can you blame me after that diabolical last sentence? (AGAIN, LAURA! REALLY?) Big thanks to Del Rey for this e-arc!

I am absolutely speechless. I finished this book yesterday and spent the rest of the day not reading at all but rather staring at the wall. This author manages to rip out my heart with every one of her books and I feel like now she has perfected how to then ruin the ripped heart in perfection. And probably the next book will destroy me even more. This was the third book I’ve read of this author and I rated everyone so far 5 stars- but I feel like with that comparison I need a sixth star added now. I absolutely loved that we get Levans POV this time and also Aurias. Let’s say that was a POV I didn’t knew I needed but it definitely added a whole new level of drama. And of course we get Saffrons view. I think everyone who read Silvercloak was left stunned after the ending and does remember it perfectly well and I can only say: this book did not at all go as expected. I loved how the mistrust and hurt between Saffron and Levan was described and how realistic it was to see them struggle with it. To be honest, at some point I was not even sure anymore if maybe one of them is an unreliable narrator or what else can go wrong. Well a lot went wrong and as in book one- I didn’t see it coming. And yes, my heart broke for literally every character at least once. To learn about Levans youth, the letter, the small boys POV and so much more… My heart just constantly died together with theirs. Well and the ending? Yeah remember how I said the author knows how to trample my heart? WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT??? How on earth can there be an even crueler cliffhanger now? How am I survive not knowing what happens with my two favourite characters for maybe the next year? I don’t know it yet tbh. I haven’t wanted the next book in a series so urgently in at least a year. Probably now I even care more about this series then the other one. Thanks to netgalley for the eARC!
