Ich habe mich mega auf das Buch gefreut weil der Klappentext echt cool klang. Am Anfang war das Buch eigentlich noch ganz gut, aber mit der Zeit wurde es immer schlimmer. Mit der Zeit habe ich fast die Hälfte des Buches übersprungen, weil es einfach mega langweilig und vorhersehbar war. Sehr schade, ich glaube man hätte die Idee richtig gut umsetzten können

Please let me shout out the Brighton setting first: the pier with the sea, the coffee shops, the vibes... One of my OG comfort books took place there too, so it felt like coming home in some way. (Please tell me you still remember Girl Online by Zoella!) Another layer of nostalgia was contributed by the girlhood between Mara and her friends. This certain type of community you can only build when you see them every day at school for so many years, talk on the phone in the afternoon, and do sleepovers on the weekend. While I currently can't exactly relate to it anymore, I still remember how this special bond used to feel, which enhances the nostalgia even more. Apart from that, the way Mara "took" us on her and Nico's journey by zooming in and out of the scenes, commenting on them, and sharing her thoughts with us was absolutely captivating and pleasant to read. The same goes for how we first met "old" Nico, which helped us understand how "toxic" their relationship was and see the stretch between past and present. Since I want to keep this spoiler-free, I won't get too deep into it, but these revelations were wild. Never ever had I expected such things, but in hindsight it explains a lot. Last but not least, I love how queer relationships were the most normal thing ever. How nobody was judged but appreciated and supported was very comforting.

Mich hat diese Geschichte total überrascht und ich möchte hier in der Rezension deshalb gar nicht spoilern, falls ihr es noch nicht gelesen habt. Deshalb auch nur so viel: Der Klappentext verrät nur vage worum es tatsächlich geht und es lohnt sich bis zum Schluss dranzubleiben! 👀 Für mich hat es ein paar Kapitel gebraucht, um reinzukommen, da die Geschichte anders als viele andere YA-Bücher aufgebaut ist. Wir springen oft hin und her, zwischen vergangenem und aktuellen. Aber je weiter man in der Story kommt, desto mehr klären sich offene Fragen auf und spätestens ab der Hälfte des Buchs war ich richtig hooked! Also wenn ihr mal wieder von einer Story überrascht werden möchtet, dann könnte das euer nächster Read sein! 🤫
