What a waste
It is utterly incomprehensible to me how this is book could be rated so high. The prose is lacking. Basic scene setups are missing. It was hard to make out who was where, when and who's actually speaking. I'm sure the author had everything in clearly in their mind but they failed to put it to the page. Multiple Topics get touched upon, but never fleshed out or even revisited. Making you question if they where merely added to reach the minimum page count to qualify as a novel. There's enough plot in the the book to fill about 100 pages, the rest was padded with descriptions of smoking and banal everyday situations. The plot could have been interesting if the main character wasn't actively fighting against concentrating on anything other than her adolescent infatuation with the male love interest. I knew beforehand that the romance was at the center of the story and the sci-fi aspects where merely the backdrop, which would have been OK if the romance was even remotely interesting. The internal workings of the main character are practically non existing. She makes Bella from the Twilight Saga look like a literary work of art. The naivety of the characters might have been excusable if this was a teenager. As an adult character it is embarrassing. This novel holds many ideas, but they never get evolved past "napkin scribbles" or "elevator pitches" If it wasn't so short, I would have DNF'd it.
