Live to Tell is the second Lisa Gardner book I've read and also the second one with D.D. Warren is the lead detective. I really love the character of DD and this confirms it. I love how she interrogates, I love it when she gets lost in fantasy, I love her general crankiness. All of these does not make her a good detective, however. I likable lead most definitely yes! Similar to the novel preceding this, The Neighbor, the case appeared solvable maybe 70% of the way, D.D. just didn't ask the right obvious questions earlier or constructed an obviously very wrong theory. I mean I get it, she is not an elite detective, she just works hard and has her heart in the right place. The journey to the end is more enjoyable than the conclusion for the two Gardner books I've read. This is a very fun book but the more I think about it, the more frustrated I feel. I will check more titles on this series and I hope DD straight-up delivers ala Poirot.
