I did NOT expect this book to be this good after I was so bored with the first four volumes. We focus more on Eglantine this time, who is distraught with grief over losing her parents - the pure ones take this opportunity to manipulate her. Poor girl really grew on me this volume. Her pain was very clear and it was understandable why she so willingly accepted Nyra as her mother. Even better that she, out of her own strength, snapped out of it in the end. REALLY liked this arc. Another thing I liked was how things unfolded in that battle against the pure ones by the end of the book. And I'm usually bored with action scenes. But this one was very... fleshed out? It was told from multiple points of view, was fast-paced, intriguing and an interesting thing was that the author gave this one owl - Uglamore - this inner monologue paragraph about thinking for oneself. Loved it. Hope they keep this up in future volumes!
