Auguste Lechner arbeitete das Nibelungenlied sehr gut und verständlich auf. Es gibt einige Ausschmückungen, aber es vergisst sich nicht zu sehr im Detail. Darauf basiert meine Bewertung von 4 Sterne. Die Geschichte, welche selbst aus dem 13. Jahrhundert stammt, will ich nicht bewerten. Ich möchte jedem Leser raten, die Ursprünge im Hinterkopf zu behalten, anders hätte auch ich die Frauenfeindlichkeiten, den Rassismus, Toxizität, Egoismus, Gier, etc. nicht ertragen können.

I really enjoyed reading this book, I found it easily accessible, which is something that cannot be said about many retellings of Classical myths. Yes, the language is sometimes old-fashioned but that is to be expected when trying to recreate a medieval world. Of course the mind-set, values and attitudes of the characters is very different to ours but wouldn't it somehow cheating if the author had tried to modernize the tale in order not to upset anyone? For a first glimpse into the world of the Nibelungen and Germanic myth, I can really recommend this book.
