Ich habe es lange vor mir hergeschoben, das Buch zu lesen, bin aber umso dankbarer, es endlich gemacht zu haben. Er Autor zeigt anhand zahlreicher Beispieler die Entwicklung der Orientalistik und des Orientalismus auf. Dadurch war gut verständlich, was genau er mit "Orientalismus" meint. Jedoch konnte ich nicht mit allen Beispielen was anfangen und habe sie teilweise nur überflogen, da mir häufig das Hintergrundwissen zu den Personen und ihrer Bedeutung gefehlt hat. Dennoch ein interessantes und wichtiges Buch, das den eurozentrischen Blick auf den Nahen Osten seziert und bis heute eine Grundlage postkolonialer Diskurse darstellt.

Hm. I guess my rating is not really the book's fault at all - I just don't care for this kind of book and wouldn't have bothered reading it if I didn't write a termpaper on othering during 21st century literature right now... I am really interested in linguistics - but this book is too much history for my taste.
