Changing my rating from 4 stars to 4.5 to potentially 5 stars. It's not a perfect book, but it was perfect for me. Not going to go into the plot right here because I guess you've read the description by now, but it is heartbreaking. This is such a difficult story to tell and read. Maybe it's not to everyone, but as I'm working with refugee boys arriving in my country every day, hearing their stories and trying to find a place for them to live, this broke my heart. It is very easy not to think about all the traumatic experiences that people go through while fleeing their home countries. It is very easy to judge them and it is very easy to think that the government shouldn't allow any more refugees into your country. Read this book and talk to the people and then tell me you wouldn't try the very same things to survive.
