I was really looking forward to reading the book. In the end, however, I have to say that I imagined something completely different. The writing style is certainly great, but the story just didn't grab me at all. It reminded me of the Book Effi Briest. Despite what is actually a very varied and emotional story, it was so emotionless and flatly told that I couldn't even really empathize with Esme. I didn't feel like I really wanted to keep reading to know that happened next. I read so that the book would end quickly.
