Do not read unless you want to read about two women who come into touch due to an apple peeler auction. They text back and forth and suddenly some abusive shitshow happens. The other person makes her quit her job, kill animals, etc etc. And somehow the other person falls for this? And wants a family with her? And since they cant make a baby - since they r both women. She forces her VIA TEXT to eat a rotten steak with larva etc to get a tape worm. Then proceeds to abandon her and cut ties. While the other one does not seek a doctor instead she "birthes" the tapeworm and says it has the other womans eyes.. I JUST CANT. How can I undo reading this?! I will never get close to anything that author is involved to EVER!!!

3.5/5 Sterne Schöne Ideen, die verstörenden oder unangenehmen Parts waren an und für sich nicht schlecht, aber ich hatte in keiner Geschichte das Gefühl, mit den Protas oder der Story mitzufühlen. Grad die erste Story hat Potenzial aber der Email- Messenger- Ablauf war zu oberflächlich und dadurch wurde es für mich unfreiwillig komisch anstatt schockierend, ich kann mir vorstellen wie grausam diese Abwärtsspirale rüberkommen würde, wenn es mir nur etwas mehr Entwicklung gegeben hätte.

das einzige, was ich zu diesem buch sagen kann, ist: es ist verstörend. wirklich verstörend. und vielleicht ist genau das der grund, warum es so unglaublich gut funktioniert. schon nach den ersten seiten hat es mich gepackt, dieser mix aus neugier, unbehagen und einer faszination, die einen einfach nicht loslässt. „things have gotten worse since we last spoke (and other misfortunes)“ besteht aus drei kurzgeschichten, die alle auf ihre eigene art und weise tief unter die haut gehen. jede geschichte hat ihre eigene düstere atmosphäre, aber gemeinsam ist ihnen dieses beklemmende gefühl, das beim lesen langsam, aber sicher, immer stärker wird. man weiß nicht, ob man umblättern will, weil man neugierig ist, oder ob man es besser lassen sollte, weil man ahnt, dass es nur noch schlimmer wird. ich habe das buch innerhalb von einer stunde durchgelesen, weil ich es schlicht nicht weglegen konnte. es ist, als würde man in einen strudel gezogen: man will unbedingt wissen, wie es endet, auch wenn man gleichzeitig davor zurückschreckt. und als ich die letzte seite gelesen hab, saß ich einfach nur da mit einem „wow“-moment, halb beeindruckt, halb verstört. der writingstil ist dabei ein riesiger pluspunkt. er ist klar, direkt und trotzdem atmosphärisch so dicht, dass man die situationen und emotionen fast körperlich spürt. es gibt keine überflüssigen ausschmückungen, aber jede zeile sitzt und trifft genau da, wo sie soll!! es ist kein buch für schwache nerven aber wenn man bereit ist, sich auf etwas wirklich düsteres einzulassen, dann ist es eine sehr gute erfahrung.

Ich habe das Buch gelesen weil ich Horror liebe und sehr viele Kommentare zu diesem Buch gelesen hatte,die sagten „ihnen wäre schlecht vom lesen und dass es einfach eklig wäre „ meiner persönlichen Meinung nach empfand ich die 3 Geschichten nicht als besonders eklig oder angsteinflössend. Muss man nicht gelesen haben, hatte für mich keinen Mehrwert, da es nicht wirklich was mit mir gemacht hat.

Things have gotten worse since we last spoke 5/5 ⭐️ This one made me highly uncomfortable, grimace at multiple points and feel dirty reading it. Just what I want from my short horror stories. 2. The Enchantment 4/5 ⭐️ Supernatural horror isn’t usually my thing and this one left me wanting more which is why I had to deduct one star. Still this one made me feel quite empty so it definitely did what it set out to do. 3. You’ll find it’s like that all over 3/5 ⭐️ Sadly not my cup of tea. I was mostly just annoyed at the lack of backbone for the main character and while I understand that is the point of it it drove me up the wall. I would still recommend it overall and had a great afternoon devouring it

Der Kurzroman "Things have gotten worse since we last spoke" hätte von mir vermutlich 4-5 Sterne bekommen. Er hat ein unangenehmes Gefühl hinterlassen, ich wollte die gesamte Zeit weiterlesen, die steigende Irrationalität war absolut glaubwürdig dargestellt. Viel zum Nachdenken, vor allem über unsere heutige Gesellschaft. Und mit Abstand der beste Schreibstil mit den besten One-Linern im ganzen Buch. "The Enchantment" dagegen hat sich für mich angefühlt - und ich betone "für mich", denn das kann daran liegen, dass ich ebenjene Bücher vor Kurzem erst gelesen habe - wie eine Mischung aus Shining und Später von Stephen King, dazu eine Prise Horrorspiel und Gott. Den Anfang habe ich noch gebannt verfolgt, dann hat mein Interesse allerdings schnell nachgelassen... Die letzte Kurzgeschichte war dann ein interessanter Take über die heutige Gesellschaft, verwoben mit einem ungewöhnlichen Beispiel. Etwas wirklich neues konnte ich daraus allerdings auch nicht mitnehmen. Daher ergibt sich für mich eine Wertung von insgesamt 3.5 ⭐

Dieses Buch war stellenweise für mich echt grenzwertig und Ekelhaft. Teilweise haben gewisse Figuren eine soo krasse Obsession entwickelt in einer so kurzen Zeit, fühlte sich etwas gehetzt an. Kein schlechtes Buch, für Leute die auf Abgefuckte Stories stehen ( nicht negativ gemeint ).

I did kind of enjoy 'The Enchantment' and 'You'll find it's like that all over' but I was just not getting a proper spook or discomfort out of them as I would've hoped with the mood that 'Things have gotten worse since we last spoke' had set. A pity. But still, I wouldn't say "don't read it, it's a waste of time" but if I were to recommend this to anyone I'd say just go with the standalone of 'things have gotten worse since we last spoke'.

I really liked the first story and actually picked the book up because I thought it only contains things have gotten worse since we last spoke. The two other story's were nice to read but I wouldn't read them again compared to the first story. It's overall a 3 1/3 star read for me. If I would break it down to the 3 story's my rating would be: 1. Story: 4 1/2 stars 2. Story: 3 stars 3. Story: 3 1/2 stars
