My throat an open grave war damals das erste Buch von der Authorin und ich hab weitere Werke ne Weile auf meinen tbr gehabt. Es war so schön wieder etwas von ihr zu lesen. Die Story war in 2 Zeitlinien und Povs unterteilt. Einmal unsere Protagonistin (In der Gegenwart )und dann ihre Tante (Vergangenheit) In der Gegenwart wird Neela entführt vom Goblin Markt und muss gerettet werden. Noch steckt hinter dem Markt auch noch eine weitere Geschichte der Familie. Diese erfahren wir in der anderen POV. Mit bildlichen Umschreibungen werden einen Schönheit und Grauen nah gelegt. Die Protagonistin ist clever und kann auch ohne die Gaben ihrer Familie sich einen Weg erkämpfen. Was mich etwas gestört hat war, dass in der Vergangenheit ein Gremlin Prinzip stattfand (Es gibt nur ein paar Regeln und natürlich können die nicht gehalten werden) All in all war dieses Buch auf jeden Fall eine Freude zu lesen

After I fell head over heels in love with "The Devil Makes Three" I immediately rushed to read the authors next work. Unfortunately, I didn't love this book quite as much. My main issue with it is the dual POV with two different timelines, I found the past timeline about May much more interesting than the present day timeline with Lou. Also, I was super excited in the beginning of the book to find out that Lou is ace, good ace rep is very hard to find, however it never seems to become relevant in either the plot or character development so it feels pointless to even mention it, other than trying to fake a diverse cast, since there's already lesbian representation in the book. I got my hopes up and was disappointed. That's not to say that it was a bad book, it wasn't. But it also didn't blow me away like TDMT did.

Tw: dismemberment, gore, death, torture, trauma Since Mari and I loved “the devil makes three”, we decided to binge the next book of Tori’s as well. It started with a flashback and to my surprise those kept happening, which I loved to be honest. At some point I could not decide which timeline I loved more, the past or the present. I felt for Lou since she was literally the only one who was not informed about the family secret, but knew that one existed. It would have driven me mad, if I was her. And at some point, because of events unfolding, she was finally pulled into the inner circle and her reaction was pretty on point. The darker elements of this story, the goblins, were something I really enjoyed. I love a good dark mystery/thriller and this was about as close as one could get with this story. And of course I adore a good witch story, but we sadly didn’t really get that much in the realm of witches and magic. So if that is what you are looking for, this might not be the book for you. If however you are looking for a generational story about family bonds, sacrifice and love, a little bit of ace and bi representation, a bit of magic and a race against time to save the people most important, this is right up your alley.

Ich habe das Buch regelrecht verschlungen, obwohl ich mit englischen Büchern normalerweise etwas länger brauche. Es war düster, es war blutig und ich kann es Dir nur empfehlen, wenn Dir gerade nach einer Horror-Fantasy-Geschichte ist. Darum geht’s: Lou glaubt nicht an Magie, bis ihre jugendliche Tante Neela zum Koboldmarkt entführt wird. Drei Tage hat sie Zeit, um ihre Tante zu retten bis der heimtückische Markt verschwindet. Ihre Familie hat jedoch bereits eine Vorgeschichte mit den blutdurstigen Kobolden und einmal hinabgestiegen, ist es nicht sicher, ob sie dort jemals wieder herauskommt. Das Buch ist in zwei Zeitperspektiven geschrieben. In einer folgen wir der Tante von Lou 18 Jahre vorher und in einer begleiten wir die Protagonistin. Zu Beginn brauchte ich eine Weile bis ich die Verwandschaftsbeziehungen durchblickt hatte, aber dann konnte ich es nicht mehr aus der Hand legen. Nur das Ende hätte ich mir noch etwas knalliger gewünscht, das war recht vorhersehbar. Aber mein Herz für Monster schlägt bei diesem Cover direkt Purzelbäume. Genau mein Typ, ich liebs!
