I have got to say what a bloody brilliant story. Being a mammy myself to three kids, the youngest being 4, and I have to say this is my worst nightmare. Ive "mislaid" my children a couple of times where Ive been so focused on something else that they have managed to wander away and I haven't notice and for that split second, your brain goes into overdrive. You call them and there is no answer, you are looking for that little head of hair and the fear that grips you is unbelieveable. Mine happened in IKEA in Belfast with my eldest kid and I was so scared for those few minutes I couldnt find him. He had wandered off in to the children's department which was next and had got occupied with something before he realised we weren't there. Anyway thankfully we didn't have the outcome of this story where just for a split second, while playing hide and seek, this mum so occupied with her phone call doesn't see her child being taken away. She thinks at first she is hiding in the best spot ever. Then as she starts to realise something is up and other people help her try to find Ella, she soon realises that Ella is gone. I loved the fact, that you are basically going through two stories in this book. First you have the Dale family and what they go through with Ella missing. How such a horrible thing can either break a family apart or make them closer than ever. Then you see the story from the point of view of the lady who takes Ella. She thinks she is doing something good and she is helping the child but eventually she realises she isn't and comes to term with her own troubles. But what happens to Ella? This had my stomach in knots throughout the book. I actually stayed up till 3am to finish it and couldnt stop reading. Such a brilliantly, well written book. I loved every minute of it.
