actual rating: 4,5 stars This book was queer rom-com perfection. Ever since seemingly perfect Leo Reyes accidentally dropped a book on Wren Martin's head, Wren hates Leo's guts. Unfortunately, they are both on the student council and have to plan the upcoming Valentine's Dance together. Leo is quick to find a sponsor for the dance: the new friend-finding app Buddy. After reluctantly downlading the app, Wren starts to chat with an anonymous boy and starts developing feelings. Meanwhile Leo doesn't seem to be that detestable after all... Wren was an amazing protagonist. I loved that he was witty and a little bitchy. I could relate so much. I, too, often dislike people because of one little thing and it's hard to get out of that headspace. Leo on the other hand was super sweet. Sometimes I even felt a little bad for him, because Wren was rude af to him

I hate to admit it but this was pretty cute and I stayed up until 3.30 am to finish it which has to account for something. The aspec representation and the inclusivity were great and I might not be sure whether the plot feels too constructed but honestly, I don't care, it was a fun read that made me smile a lot.

Es gibt diese Bücher, die dafür sorgen das ich gar nicht aufhören kann zu lächeln. Weil sie mich beim lesen absolut glücklich machen. Und ja auch, weil insbesondere dieser Roman hier wirklich seine witzigen Momente hat - ohne es zu übertreiben. Wren ist nur einfach auf eine sehr glaubwürdige Art ein bisschen schusselig. ^^ Und ja, Wren Martins Geschichte hat mich definitiv glücklich gemacht. Sie ist warmherzig, witzig, romantisch, eben einfach ein richtig schönes Buch. Und ja, im Prinzip steht schnell fest, wohin die Reise in etwa geht. Aber das war mir eigentlich ziemlich egal. Es ging eher um das wie und wann. Außerdem fand ich es schön, wie die Autorin die Geschichte eines Teenagers der Ace ist erzählt, mit einer Natürlichkeit, die ich erfrischend fand. Eben auch, das es nicht zwangsläufig heißt, gar keine Beziehung zu wollen. Es ist eben ein Spektrum und ich fand richtig gut, wie die Autorin das in die Geschichte einbaut. Und ja, es ist wichtig das Jugendliche sich in Medien verschiedenster Art wiederfinden können. Und es ist auch wichtig, das s Bücher gibt die z.B. Probleme thematisieren die beim Selbstfindungsprozess entstehen können. Coming Out inklusive. Aber es ist genauso wichtig, das es nicht immer nur als Problemthema auftaucht. Und auch dafür liebe ich "Wren Martin ruins it all" weil es eine Verschnaufpause aus der Realität bietet. Egal ob man sich eins zu eins darin wiederfindet, oder einfach nur ein tolles Jugendbuch lesen möchte!

Wren Martin, the new president of the student council, doesn't get along with Leo Reyes, his vice president. But of course they have to work together to create an unforgettable valentines dance. Wren doesn't want to do a normal dance because he is asexual and knows how it feels to be an outsider. So they are sponsored by the app Buddy, where one can find friends (anonymously), and during the dance, the buddy's will be revealed. I really like the character traits of all the main characters. Wren isn't the typical protagonist, and I loved that he doesn't fulfill the stereotypes. He knows he has flaws, but with time, he learns that it is ok, not to be perfect. He is also sarcastic, and his ambition for the student council is really inspiring. Leo is, in my opinion, a little shy and couldn't or rather didn't want to talk about anything that he cares about because he was too afraid of the reaction. However, Ryan is kinda one of my favorite characters because she always helps Wren and supports him in every way she can. The writing style is so good, and I couldn't stop reading the story. I really enjoyed it, and I'll check out the other books from this author

Hier ist der Titel definitiv Programm. Denn so ziemlich alle Probleme, Hindernisse und Konflikte stammen von Wren oder er trägt zumindest eine Mitschuld daran. Ein klitzekleines bisschen nervig war das schon, denn simple Kommunikation hätte das alles so viel leichter gemacht, aber hey, er ist ein Teenager. Die müssen nicht immer vernünftig denken und handeln und letztendlich zahlt es sich tatsächlich aus. Wren als Charakter war aber tatsächlich super interessant, kennenzulernen. Während er am Anfang wirkt, als würde er nur an sich selbst denken (und den Valentinstagsball nur deshalb torpedieren, weil er selbst ace ist und keine Lust darauf hat), erfährt man im Laufe des Buches, wie viel mehr in ihm steckt und das war wirklich erfrischend. Mein Spirit Animal ist allerdings seine beste Freundin Ryan, die nicht nur richtig cool, sondern auch ein aromantic icon ist. Die ganze Storyline um Buddy, die anonyme Nicht-Dating-App, hat Spaß gemacht, obwohl mir (und allen anderen Lesenden sicherlich auch) direkt klar war, auf was das Ganze hinausläuft. Alles in allem muss ich zwar sagen, dass ich "Aces Wild", das Debüt der Autorin lieber mochte, aber "Wren Martin ruins it all" auch echt unterhaltsam war.
