4,5/5 An outstanding postapocalyptic novel about humanity at its worst and, sometimes, at its best. I really liked that although the story mostly follows three main story plot points, McCammon manages to bring in a lot more character povs by changing the viewpoint mid chapter in a high frequency. This turns every second of the narrative into an extremely dynamic experience, since it allows him to swap between the experiences of different characters and how they react to or feel about certain situations as he sees fit. And here we are at Swan Song’s greatest strength: its characters. They are really well realized and believably written. We follow a wide range of them, both good, bad and sometimes something in between. We see them struggle, suffer, hope and, not seldom, die. Overall, there is not much to complain about. This is an astounding work of fiction that is only held back from a perfect rating by my personal taste. Highly recommended.
