let's start with how wildly unique Mellows system of magic and world building still feels, despite this being book two. Like. I know it's not completely new, I have read similar versions and honestly at this point probably this point this almost exact system before. But it *feels* unique and new and that is quite wonderful. I love that Niya didn't "get tamed", but that she grew for herself. I can't say I wouldn't have wanted to see Alōs grovel some more, after all he gave her lasting trust issues, but I'd say their conflict was resolved quite well still.
It was an incredible book. Like the first one, the worldbuilding was incredible. The characters lovely and the plot great. The romance was sweet and slow paced without feeling forced. The plot with Esrom was by far my favorite, and I really loved the siblings' love that was explored deeper in this book. I am excited for the third book
It just did not invoke my interest. I liked the first book, but the love story in this one isn't for me.
oh dear, that one got me. The second book in this intriguing series fully used its potential I saw when reading book one. The mystery of the world, the magic, adventure. A perfect fantasy journey. And the enemies to lovers action. I can’t. THIS WAS SO GOOD. We get some actual enemies, forced to work together and unable to resist their attraction towards each other. This book is perfection. It was exciting and emotional and made me laugh and cry. Niya probably is my favorite sister. Her wild fire and sass. But she’s also deeply caring and passionate. And in pirate captain Alōs Ezra she found her perfect counterpart. And damn he’s got all the charm to get to you. I think Niya isn’t the only one unable to not fall for that smooth charmer. Those two are fire and ice. But match so perfectly. Amazing book. I’m glad I kept going after book 1 was decent and didn’t live up to its potential. This one reached beyond its potential. Lets se if Arabessa, and if I had to guess Zimri, have in store for us. Cause the bar is damn high now. 5
