After enjoying Milk & Honey way more than I expected (me being not interested in poetry at all and stuff), I was really looking forward to read The Princess Saves Herself in this One. Sadly, I didn't enjoy this collection as much as I had hoped. As already mentioned, I don't know nothing about good or bad poetry, so please don't hate me for saying the following, but personally I think that the 'poems' displayed on here were no poetry at all. While Milk & Honey had loads of poems that were more than relatable, this collection seemed like normal sentences seperated to suggest a deeper meaning. I could hardly relate to any of them plus the space after every word was rather annoying. I do fully understand why the author wrote this poems and I feel truly sorry for her losses, however I personally think that this collection is better for private use than for publication.

🖤🖤🖤 ❔ Welches Buch konnte euch zuletzt nicht überzeugen? Gestern habe ich dieses Buch beendet. Ich mag englische Poesie und daher hatte ich mich sehr gefreut. Die Lebensgeschichte, die Amanda hier verarbeitet wurde auch sehr chronologisch erzählt in den ersten 2/3 des Buches. Danach wurde es etwas wirr. Außerdem waren es einfach oft nur Sätze, die mit der Enter Taste auf die Seite verteilt wurden. Das hatte stellenweise nichts mit Poesie zu tun. Mir hat es also nicht gefallen und ich hätte fast abgebrochen. Empfehlen kann ich es leider nicht. Da es aber um die Traumabewältigung einer jungen Frau geht, möchte ich das ganze auch nicht bewerten, denn ich hoffe das dieses Buch ihr dabei geholfen hat, auch wenn sie mich damit nicht abholen konnte.

And once again, a book I hoped to like, but disappointed me a lot. The themes in those poems weren't my cup of tea, nothing I could relate to. I mean, the author is really strong for making it through all of that and then putting it into words and sharing it with the world. I really do appreciate that. Doesn't erase the fact that I wasn't moved by her writing. In the beginning, the poems seemed to be chronologically and somehow connected to each other, like a story. And then towards the end, they seemed all over the place... I'm gonna give this book two stars, for the authors strenght, and for the use of nautical references, which was a nice touch; and finally somebody used another symbol besides the stars or the moon. Rating poetry is even harder than books; because they are so much more personal than a story.

I can see why so many people love this, unfortunatly I really loved the first part and also the second one, but then it went a bit downhill for me, but that I think due to personal preference. I was suprised to See how Personal some Poems are, Not the usual vague I knew from Others poens

"the princess saves herself in this one" und "the witch doesn't burn in this one" habe ich innerhalb eines Tages gelesen, als ich mal wieder zur Arbeit an die Uni pendeln musste. Kommt in der Zwischenzeit nur noch selten vor, passiert aber doch noch manchmal. Und an diesem Tag hatte ich mein Buch daheim vergessen - also hab ich mich auf Skoobe ein bisschen umgesehen und siehe da: An diesen Büchern bin ich in der Buchhandlung meines Vertrauens schon öfter vorbei gelaufen. Gekauft habe ich sie aber nie, denn beide Bücher sind recht dünn und bei Lyrik bin ich sowieso immer sehr vorsichtig. Ich mag Gedichte, ehrlich. Aber in letzter Zeit erscheinen sehr viele Gedichte, die auf mich pseudo-tiefgründig wirken und auch nicht besonders gut geschrieben wurden. Die machen sich dann zwar gut auf Instagramfotos, aber sonst geben sie meiner Meinung nach leider nicht so viel her. Auch diese Gedichte werden wohl nicht in die Literaturgeschichte eingehen. Aber das ist in Ordnung, denn ich mochte sie trotzdem. Ich fand den Inhalt der Gedichte einfach wundervoll! Es geht um starke Frauen, um den Kampf um Selbstbewusstsein, das Überwinden negativer Erfahrungen und darum, dass man sich von niemandem etwas gefallen lassen soll. Es geht um Selbstliebe und warum man sich zumindest respektierten sollte, auch wenn man sich gerade aus welchem Grund auch immer nicht lieben kann. Während ich diese Gedichte gelesen habe, habe ich mich stark gefühlt, fast schon unbesiegbar. Ich und diese Gedichte gegen den Rest der Welt. Außerdem war ich total stolz auf mich, dass ich so viele der Anspielungen auf andere Bücher erkannte. Ich liebe sowas! Und ich hab so unglaublich viel markiert! Ein paar der Gedichte werde ich zumindest ausschnittsweise auf meinen Blog stellen, dann werdet ihr schon sehen, was ich meine! Wegen genau diesem Gefühl denke ich auch, dass diese Bücher wohl vor allem für jugendliche Mädchen geeignet sind. Für meine kleine Schwester zum Beispiel, der ich diese Bücher auf jeden Fall ans Herz legen wird. Sie wird mich zwar dafür verfluchen, weil sie schon ein ganzes Regalbrett mit meinen Empfehlungen füllen könnte, aber ich bin mir sehr sicher, dass sie diese Gedichtbände lieben würde. Mein Fazit? Zwei super schöne Gedichtbände mit Texten über sehr wichtige Themen! Hat mir super gefallen!

Wie zu erwarten schonungslos ehrlich und harte Worte. Kritik an unserer Gesellschaft, den Menschen und dem Leben und doch ist es angenehm zu lesen. Es ist wie das Leben, denn man begleitet die Autorin durch Schmerz, Trauer und Leid bis zur Liebe und Heilung. Mir hat es gut gefallen.

Poetry can be what the reader makes of it. I have not yet met another medium that is so fundamentally reliant on the subjective experience. Whether words speak to you, ignite a sparkle in your soul, tear themselves into your memory, is almost invariably linked with the reader’s own, unique experience. In The Princess Saves Herself in This One, Amanda Lovelace writes about her own experiences. Her childhood, bullying, abuse, alienation, her losses, her loves. Those experiences are radically subjective; and the reader’s perception of these words is most likely correlated with whether some of these experiences are shared. As for my own, personal experience with these words: some of them spoke to me, sometimes they made me sigh with how contrived I found some of the wisdoms woven into the poetry. My main issue is that I found the stylistic choices incredibly annoying. A sentence doesn’t suddenly turn into poetry if a paragraph is inserted after every single word. Poetry as a medium seems perfect as an expressive playground of stylistic variations; for me, however, it was taken too far here, and ultimately could not win me over. But as I said before: poetry is inherently subjective. This worked for a lot of people, just as it didn’t work for a lot of people. And both reactions are fine. ”Just because they don’t hit you doesn’t mean it isn’t abuse.”

A lot of People don‘t like this Book because it isn‘t particularly poetry but that doesn’t stop me from loving it. The emotions in this words are beautiful and tragic. I related to a lot of things and was happy that she talked about them. Sorry if the review has a few grammar fails my main language is German I apologize:)

I read this book without really feeling anything. Sure, some of the "poems" are cool but they sound more like inspirational quotes than poetry. I have to say that I'm not really into poetry but for me this book didn't fulfill my expectations. Just because she formatted it that nearly every word has its own line, it's not poetry for me. And I don't understand the title either. I thought this would be even more about a feminist approach but there were so many standard love poems in the end which were the exact opposite of the "princess saves herself in this one". Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I don't read lots of poetry or maybe this one is just meh.
