It really is a work of art. I am thoroughly impressed how Hank Green managed to wrap social critique within a story this nicely. After the first quarter of the book, I was unable to put it down. The way I was rooting for the characters and obsessed with the story, all while being forced to reflect the terrifying and somehow too realistic dangers of social media in a capitalistic society. Honestly, I don't know how he did this. This book is categorized as Sci-Fi, and it is to some extent, but it also isn't. "What is reality except for the things that people universally experience the same way?"

Der Folgeband schließt sich gut an den ersten an. Er startet langsam und definitiv mit weniger Spannung als der Vorgänger, aber ab der Hälfte war ich endlich so richtig drin und habe es genossen. Ein absolut aktuelles Thema, das aus einem positiven Blickwinkel aufgearbeitet wurde. Mein Lieblingszitat: "You[humanity]'re radically collaborative, profoundly empathetic, and deeply communal. Everyone who tells you anything different is selling the fear that is the only rhing that can break that nature."

Loved it. I was really drawn into the story - the plot felt refreshingly different to other books I’ve read in this genre and yet so realistic in terms of how people act, how the world reacts to different situations, people and problems. I loved the different perspectives and the fact that I don’t sympathize with all the diverse well-written characters. They felt three dimensional and sometimes very likable and sometimes like jerks -> they felt real.

So...either Hank Green is a psychic and knew what was gonna happen in 2020 or he just has a genius understanding of how humans work. AART blew my mind last year and I was kinda scared this was gonna be another useless sequel, but he did it again. I don't even know how to explain how amazing his books are, I'm speechless. If you haven't read AART yet, do it! Then come back for this.

I really did enjoy this! Have been surprised a couple times throughout, which I did not expect to happen. (example: different POV) Verdict: It's absolutely worth reading if you enjoyed the first book, but keep in mind that it is different from the first one regarding the style of writing.

Jetzt am Schluss möchte ich sagen, es hat sich sehr gelohnt, diesen 2. Teil zu lesen, auch wenn ich unterwegs so meine Zweifel hatte, ob eine Weiterführung nun wirklich sein muss. Der grossartige erste Teil „An Absolutely Remarkable Thing“ endete zwar mit einer Art Cliff-Hanger, aber es fühlte sich für mich dennoch stimmig an. Dieser 2. Teil ist gleichzeitig vielschichtiger aber auch irgendwie abgelöst vom 1. Teil. Die Story wächst derart über sich hinaus und bricht so einige Dimensionen, dass es sich fast wie eine andere Geschichte anfühlte. Es wird aus verschiedenen Perspektiven erzählt und trotzdem wirken die Erzähler hier flacher und unpersönlicher als im 1. Teil, dies beeinflusst die Verbindung zwischen den Teilen. Unterwegs nervte mich die Einschübe der Chatverläufe, Internet-Artikel oder Aufzählungslisten und obwohl dies seine Berechtigung für den Plotverlauf hat, machte es den Eindruck, als würde man im Internet recherchieren, etwas, was man in diesen Zeiten ohnehin fast täglich tun muss, nicht immer muss das gefallen. Am Schluss aber muss ich sagen, dass ich mehr als versöhnt bin und es tatsächlich eine grosse Bereicherung und Vergnügen war, dies Buch gelesen zu haben. APRIL am Schluss: „This isn't another cliff-hanger, I promise. I'm done here. There's no more story left after these last pages that is in any way interesting." So sollten Stories enden!

Ich habe noch nie ein Buch gelesen, dass so effektiv viele Probleme unserer digitalen Gesellschaft anspricht, mich gleichzeitig mit unglaublich menschlichen Charakteren überzeugt, in deren Geschichten und Emotionen man wahnsinnig investiert ist und sich doch noch einfach wie ein spannender und actionreicher urban Sci-Fi Roman liest.
