[Spoiler free Review] This book does a great job of fleshing out the characters, because let's be real the boys didn't get much character in the movies (which I don't mind, the movies were about the girlies, but it's still a treat to learn more about them). When I saw that Descendants had novels I was wondering what they would tackle and this book is about the group getting together and I was pleasantly surprised when it starts out with Evie and Mal being enemies! That's insane, considering their off the charts chemistry in the movies, it was a great idea. Jay and Mal being a duo and Evie with Carlos was also an intriguing idea and gave us time with each of them. I really appreciate that this book has several POV's, even a surprise Ben POV! Loved it. Ben was okay in the movies, nothing special just a good boi, but in this book he is quite intriguing and I hope to see his POV more often in the next book. The circumstances of the villains is insane to think about, those poor kids are eating moldy bread for breakfast just for being born to villains lmfaooo, Disney you are brutal. But I really appreciate the details of how the villains live on the island and how they behave towards their children (poor Carlos, free him). I love fairytales and I love crossovers so naturally Descendants and Ever After High are highly enjoyable to me and this book was a great read. If you like either of these things too I HIGHLY recommend this book, there was a lot of love put into it and it's an easy but engaging read!
I am a HUGE Disney fan and I do love the old fashioned tales, therefore it was kind of clear to me that I'd enjoy reading this book. It started off great. The whole setting, the details, the villains and their children - i loved every bit of it. If I had to choose one single character to be my favorite - uff! I'd go with Jay right now (sorry, Carlos!) because you simply can not NOT like him. I shared some really good laughs throughout reading (I literally had a hysterical breakdown in public when the line Pongo and Perdita barked about the stress of having to pay for one hundred and one college educations came up). But ... when the real adventure started, it kind of got boring. I can't really explain why but the entire plot with the dragon statue wasn't my cup of tea. Unfortunately. Therefore the actual rating for this novel is 3.75* I'd say. I am, in fact, really looking forward to the sequel of the Island of the Lost. Gonna read this one soon and have a reunion with Evie, Mal, Carlos and Jay.
Rating: 3.5 I really enjoyed this novel. I'm such a big Disney fan and I loved every Disney aspect in the book. The writing was also very well and I thought this book has a lot of sass and was pretty hilarious sometimes. I hoped for a bigger plot the whole time because it's very small and what happened wasn't the most exciting thing. In the ending the storytelling was a little bit too predictable. The characters were lovely and I enjoyed their chemistry together. I really like to see how the author thinks our famous villains would be like as parents. All in all its a fun light hearted read and I still recommend it. I'm excited to see how the story continues in the second book :)
