To die will be an awfully big adventure. - J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

„There‘s the one who teaches you what love is, even if it doesn’t last. And then there’s the one who makes you a better human than you were, even as you do the same for him.“ Sehr gut geschrieben und auch das Fachwissen über Ägypten und Ägyptologie was vermittelt wird ist so interessant. Das Buch hat mich sehr zum nachdenken gebracht & auch zum reflektieren.

To be honest, and this will come as a shock for some, this is the first book of Jodi Picoult I ever read, I'd never even heard of her before. I started to read this book a couple weeks ago on a five hour train ride. I bought it at the station, quickly scanning the book store for a nice read to shorten the time. The cover caught my eye right away. I mean, who doesn't love a book with a beautiful cover? Egyptology, archeology, life and death, unfulfilled love, the question of what coul have been,... . And god I was not disappointed! I LOVED the book, and it sure won't be the last one of Picoult I will read. At the beginning I was a bit confused by the jumping back and forth in time and place, but after a few chapters, you get a hang of it. And yes, what a lot of the reviews critizise is true, there is a lot of deep talk about Egyptology an quantum physics, but honestly, I didn't mind. I always had a great interest in old civilizations, so I found the extra info really interesting. And even though I didn't fully understand all the parts about quantum physics, I still think these parts were really important to understand the mechanics of this book. I loved all the charakters. Dawn, Wyatt, Brian, Meret, Win,... They all have their own story to tell. Especially Win got under my skin. Her story, her fears, her hopes... But also, if you're looking for firy romance, you won't be disappointed. The story between Wyatt and Dawn is just one of the most romantic things ever! What I found most captivating about the book was that until very close to the end you don't know which path Dawn will choose, Wyatt or Brian, Land or Water, just as I couldn't decide whos side to be on. And even though the end kind of leaves open what the future holds for all of the characters, I still found it a very beatiful ending.
