Hiccup needs a blanket. And a hot chocolate.
I cried twice in the last few chapters. But we’re not gonna mention that to anyone else, okay? I don’t want to disappoint Furious. Such a lovely way to wrap up a plot. I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect the way the Wodensfang’s betrayal ended up playing out. A book that felt like it was swapping out gently cradling me with bashing me over the head. The epilogue was part of what also brought me to tears. Because yes. Toothless would never leave Hiccup for forever. The themes of slavery, animal abuse and the general gist of how humans treat what they believe to be below them and our act in the extinction of several species/preservation and conservation was as clear as day in a gorgeous way and I believe I will cherish this series and its opinions for a rather long time. I’m really considering reading this to my best friend’s child once they’ve reached Hiccup’s age (for each book), as it does address important topics. Would not recommend for a child younger than 12 starting at book ~5, but I think it would be a gentle enough shock of reality. (The illustrations gaining in number and quality - the hordes of dragons and houses on fire especially - was a real treat as I went through the books!) Thank you, Cressida Cowell, for writing this series!
