I just finished reading Adrian McKinty's latest thriller, The Island, and while it was a fast-paced and easy read, I couldn't help but feel a little underwhelmed. The writing itself is fluid and kept the pages turning, which I appreciate. However, the main issue for me was the predictable storyline and the complete lack of suspense. Right from the start, especially when you connect the dots with the book's cover art, the plot's big reveal becomes pretty obvious. The story unfortunately never manages to build any real tension, which took away from the overall experience. Even though the events were exciting, the lack of surprise and suspense meant the overall impact was quite muted. In short, it's a quick, entertaining read if you're looking for something to pass the time. Just don't expect any thrilling moments or shocking twists.
