Well, what to say? The book is short and Murakami manages it to make the main character unlikeable as far in as page 3. A widower, now trying to find a new wife by having an audition for a movie that is just made up, picks one girl out of 1000 who are of course all about 20 years younger than him and sexy. Not to mention that this girl is ultimately sexy and seemingly kind. Of course she goes out with this older guy who has not much to offer (interesting conversations already included). So we follow them page after page and restaurant after restaurant and obsession after obsession until everything gets terribly wrong (which doesn't really come unexpected either). But thanks to pages 1-3 you luckily don't care too much anymore and are far from feeling pity. The references to the places in Tokio were nice but neither the characters nor the plot not the writing style could convince me to read more books by this author.
