richtig toll!! 🌙

Argh I don't know how to feel about this one. I loved the other books by Lauren James which I have read so far (GREEN RISING and THE QUIET AT THE END OF THE WORLD). But this one... Maybe it's because of the genre (thriller). It was a bit too heavy for me, to be honest. It was still wonderfully written and totally addictive. It's just that I felt that a story about a girl alone in the universe could have been more epic, more fantastical than what it actually has come down to.

2.5/3 I think I'm adding this book into the category "I thought again this was about something completely different" which is a very filled category in 2019. To be fair, I only picked this book up because of some recommendations and then only skim read the summary on the back. I liked what I read, enjoyed the beginning of the book and kept reading on. But then, 100 pages went by and I knew: I am ready to leave most of the young adult age range, no matter what genre, in 2019. My interest have changed and I am starting to realize this now more clearly. Also anything that reminds me of the movie Passengers is not for me At All. But if I push my personal taste to the side I can say this: The loneliest girl in the universe is a well crafted young adult horror Sci-Fi novel that is especially suited for older teens who are wanting to take their first steps into sff. If they are okay with a main character who is.. a little obnoxious, sometimes juvenile and very fond of romance. It is, in a way, a story about finding yourself, about being okay with being alone and about a bright future. Well written with some chilling themes and a small cast of characters. There were some parts that had me rolling with my eyes. And the part about J was not great. Especially the age range and the conflicted feelings at the end about the book. I feel like this was never challenged enough to make the whole thing clear (wasn't Romy suppose to be 16?). Maybe it was because the ending felt a little rushed and quick for me, or because the relationship and the ending was underwritten. There are some questions I have. If I would care enough I would ask them but I know that I don't so let's leave them unanswered. Overall it was a decent and okay book.

I don't even know what I can say about this book without spoiling anything. I can say, that it will surprise you. There are twists and turns in this story, that had me distrust every single thing happening. It's a dark story. A story, that touches on your deepest fears and some very big questions. It starts out in one direction and then it goes of the rail so badly, you don't know how anything can be okay ever again. It's hardcore and definitely not for the faint of heart. Thinking about it now, I'm still kinda shaking up about the last 100 or so pages. So much happened and it was so crazy. I would have loved to give this one 5 stars, but in the end, I was a bit thrown of by some motivations in the end (staying vague here to not spoil anything). They fell kinda flat to me, but other than that, I really enjoyed that whole book and the ending was very good. It had just the right amount of hopefulness, while still being very open. I gotta say, this was defiantly an emotional ride and I can't recommend it enough to all you people out there who love gritty sci-fi, that still manages to stay true to its young protagonist. I also loved all the mentions of day to day life and how the author addressed, that Romy had never shaved her legs before because why would she have done that? Just small touches, that I appreciate a lot. I can't wait to read more of Lauren James' book, I really like the direction this book took, especially witch how I feared it would end. I think I could enjoy her other stories a lot as well.

I listened to the audiobook and finished it on one evening, which tells you that it was suspenseful and fast-paced and I liked it. First of all the story and the setting are great - girl alone in space on her way to basically save the future of human kind. It seems like I didn't read the description fully because somehow I expected it to be more of a Sci-Fi romance/contemporary thing rather than a thriller. But I liked it more this way so that's a good thing! Like I said I felt the suspense and didn't want to stop reading because of it - but that doesn't mean I didn't see some things coming. I had a feeling that something wasn't the way it seemed to be and I had a lot of theories about it - one of them even turned out to be right. I suspected everything to be about revenge and I was kind of disappointed about this big revelation. But this could be a case of me not being the target audience/age for this book. Overall it was a good story, I liked the mental health topics and the gripping writing style. Trigger warnings: loss of loved ones in the past, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, grief, descriptions of death and tooth extraction stalking, violence, emotional abuse

The lonliest girl in the universe“ entschieden.
