I was a bit afraid to read this, because I loved book 1 so much, and how could anything live up to that? Sequels after a five-star experience always make me nervous. And while Brighter Than Nine didn’t quite blow me away the same way book one did, I genuinely enjoyed being back in this world and with these characters. What stood out most to me was the Four/Zizi storyline. The added backstory was so interesting, and we are deep in his POV at times. Overall, identity and memory felt like the heart of this installment and that’s what will stay with me. Did it overwhelm me? No. Especially since the storytelling seemed a bit muddled at times. Did I still love returning to this unique, slightly chaotic, anime-coded world? Absolutely. And the ending? I really loved it. It left me with a genuinely good feeling. A truly unique series that will live in my heart and head for a long long time. 4/5 stars Thank you @netgalley and @harperkids for the eARC! #BrighterThanNine #Netgalley #Bookstagram
