In diesem Teil begleiten wir Chih zu seinem Kloster, wohin sie nach langer Reise zurückkehren. Doch zunächst finden sie die Tore versperrt vor. Als sie dennoch ins Kloster gelangen, hat sich vieles verändert und eine Besrohung steht vor den Toren. Dieser Band führt uns tiefer ins Klosterleben hinein und wir erfahren vor Allem mehr über die wundersamen Begleiter der Kleriker, die "neixin". Ein etwas anderer Band, der aber nichts an Zauber einbüsst und etwas ruhiger und persönlicher ist als die vorigen. Top!

To me, the essence of this series is that each book emphasises or looks at another aspect of story telling. So while this is certainly about grief, to me it centers the fallibility of a singular story. Because the subject of the story may change, because many stories are momentary snapshots. Ultimately only all the stories about the person that has passed combined make for a whole picture, but very few are privy to that. I loved how some scenes almost made it feel like the dead intervene to have their stories told and heard correctly, like your story must not be lost when you die. There is a great responsibility in remembering the big and the small and I greatly enjoyed the input this novella gives for pondering on that. CNs for death and grief and growing pains several characters face due to change in them and around them.
