Have loved the Bechdel Cast for over five years now, so of course I was gonna listen to the audiobook of this one, what with Jamie Loftus reading it herself. And boy oh boy do I think that enhanced the experience :D I listen to my audiobooks on 1.5x speed and up, so the meanderings I was not so invested in went by quickly and I didn't mind them so much. I get why Loftus could not write about Hot Dog Summer without acknowledging what big transformative life events accompanied the more benign seeming objective of testing your way throughout the US hot dog landscape. These events color the way you remember and write about things and I suppose they make this book more human. I just sometimes did not feel as invested in them is all. But oh the tangents on meat packing, competitive eating, restaurant legacies and condiment etiquette were DELICIOUS. I really enjoyed my time with this fun fact filled book. In audio format I could easily follow Loftus' speaking style... which I suppose must've been somewhat of a comma nightmare on the page? TL;DR: Read the audiobook and be happier for it! CNs for descriptions of animal cruelty, gross profit-oriented worker-endangering business practices, descriptions of class struggles in the US, misogynistic marketing, brief mentions of a break-up, housing insecurity and illness within the family of the author
