Emmie and Will get married for convenience. Emmie wants to keep her childhood home, and her inly way to do so is to marry before her cousin does, so she proposes to her childhood friend, Will. She promises to help him push his political carreer forward in exchange. It works. Fast forward 8 years later, everything is as it should be, Will and Emmie live in the house (mansion), Will’s carreer is amazing thanks to Emmie, her hostess skills and her connexion. But, the Duke decide to host a birthday party where he wents his whole legacy united. That legacy includes Will and Emmie’s 2 children, Malcolm (7) and Flora (5) except. Except it turns out the deal to get and keep the house was : first cousin to get married gets the house and keeps it if they can have a child in the first 5 years of marriage. Emmie and Will were unsuccessful at having children. But in a desperate attempt to keep the house, Emmie lied and created Malcolm and later, Flora. And now, she has to come clean to Will, explain the whole situation and find to way to keep her house. How? You ask. Well, they’re “borrowing” a pair of siblings from a orphanage and tur ing their lives around. I loved it omg. The idea of the book is genius, and I love a good marriage of convenience story where the guy falls first. Add to that the amazingly cute children and the parent dynamic and it’s just what I love. The relationship is pretty slow to develop between Emmie and Will, which I didn’t mind because the plot makes it really worth your while. The children really sell the whole thing. They’re orphans and they’ve already seen too much of life, at the ripe age of eight and five. Which makes them really mature, and also little stealers but I loved how the authors managed to make them believable. I did believe those two children were five and eight from their interractions. They were just amazing. There are really good side characters, which is always important in a boon. The conflicts are also all legitimate and therr is no miscommunication which is my main bookish ick. My only issue really was the ending, it felt really rushed and convenient, which is always frustrating when you’re loved the entirety of a book. Actually, other issue : this is a closed door / clean romance. I don’t mind that, but it did felt like I missed something when everything was going good but not resolved and then all of a suddent there was an elipse and they woke up in bed in an inn. Otherwise, I loved it and highly recommend!
