✨Horror Highlight✨

Once again an amazing book 💕

This was simply an amazing T. Kingfisher book once again. I absolutely loved it. It was a little disgusting with all the parasitic insects, but honestly I even liked that. I really enjoyed how the story turned into something I didn't quite see coming and once again I just loved the main characters.

First of all: big, VERY BIG trigger warning: bugs. A lot of them. I am usually perfectly able to read about them since I already had plenty of disgusting situations with patients in reality, but gods above, there were moments when I texted my book bestie " I don't know if I can sleep without dreaming of them". So yeah, keep that in mind please. The book starts in a way that I wasn't sure if its actually fantasy or if its the typical horror story that just uses mythology as a way to explain creepy situations with rumours. Which it is? Go find out- you will in the end. The story was catching from the start and while it was kinda slow during maybe the first third that matched the vibe extremely well. We get to know all the characters (or so we think) and the author is extremely talented in creating a creepy vibe alone by describing the forest- an the possum... And we have a cat: Smiley. Always a plus point for me. The ending was not what I expected even tho I thought I figured it out. Yeah no, I figured maybe 10%, the rest was not what I expected. But in the end it was great. So if you are looking for a creepy book thats amazingly written, will show you that sometimes monsters are not the most obvious ones and will keep you up at night: read it. If you're strong enough. Thanks to netgalley for the eARC!

Trigger warning: insects. Seriously. This book made me deeply uncomfortable in the best horror-movie way. While listening to the audiobook, I found myself deliberately zoning out at times — the same way you peek through your fingers during a scary scene. Which honestly says a lot about how effective it is. This is a very typical (aka really good) T. Kingfisher book. Her writing once again gets under your skin quietly and stays there. Being so deeply rooted in the FMC’s POV makes everything even creepier — there’s no distance, no relief, just you and her curiosity, confusioescalating dread. The audiobook narrator deserves special praise. Her voice work is excellent, all the characters are distinct, and she balances tension and tone perfectly, even when I wanted to mentally nope out. If you like Kingfisher’s particular brand of intimate, unsettling horror, this absolutely delivers. Just beware if insects (especially combined with body horror) are your personal nightmare fuel. 4/5 stars Thank you @netgalley and @Macmillan.Audio for the eARC! #WolfWorm #Netgalley #Bookstagram
