This book continues delving into Fable's family dynamics and legacy as she meets her grandmother (her mother's mother), and through her and her mother's very first crew, Fable learns more about her dead mother. As with everything sea trade in this world as well as everything Fable, her father Saint is not too far away from the action either. Similarly, she learns new things about her boyfriend West and his past, and has to make decisions between her old family and West's crew, who have become her new family. In "Fable", I had been a bit unsatisfied with the fact that we learned very little about what it means to be a gemsage in this world. In Namesake the focus is still on Fable's family dynamics, the political landscape of the sea trade, and where Fable and her friends stand in this whole thing. Nevertheless, we do learn a bit more about what the capabilities of a gemsage mean for Fable. There is not a focus on it, but the influence on her everyday live is more more obvious in this book. The crew of the Marigold were less of a focus in this book than in the previous one, so I didn't care about them all that much here. Everyone besides West and Willa was barely mentioned, except being there, Willa just wanted to leave, and West was more important to the plot, but he mostly annoyed me. Not in a way that was detracting from the story, but I ended up only caring about him as an actor in pushing the plot along and as a motivation for Fable's actions, and not as a love interest for her as such. Reading this book for the romance would have been underwhelming for me (but I know there are others who likely would have enjoyed how he acts in this book), but luckily the book had enough other things to offer for me. This book was a great conclusion to Fable's duology and to her journey in finding a place in the narrows and in her father's life.

Ich habe das Finale der Dilogie direkt hinterher gelesen, weil ich unbedingt wissen wollte, wie es ausgeht. Und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht 🥰 Es war unglaublich gut. Die Handlung ist weiterhin überraschend, ziemlich gut konstruiert, und mit vielen Wendungen durchzogen, die mich auf jeden Fall total gefesselt haben. Ich fand’s nach wie vor spannend, aber ich hatte hier das Gefühl, dass das Tempo etwas herausgenommen wurde. So richtig greifen kann ich das nicht, aber ich würde sagen, dadurch war Band zwei etwas schwächer für mich als Band eins. Das ist aber Klagen auf sehr hohem Niveau 😂 West und Fable waren wahnsinnig süß, und ich mochte, dass die Lovestory so unaufgeregt war und der Handlung den Raum überlassen hat. Auch Saint hatte hier eine großartige Rolle, ich fand die Dynamik zwischen ihm und Fable wirklich schön, die beiden hatten tolle Momente 🥹 Mein Fazit: Eine rundum tolle, sehr schön geschriebene Geschichte mit einem Ende, das mir zumindest wahnsinnig gut gefallen hat ❤️

What an end to the story. All the plottwists (foreseeable and unexpected ones). I wanted to strangle West more than once, also kick Fable, hug Willa and Auster, smack Paj, kill Holland and in the end just give the biggest hug to Saint. The end was definitely not what I expected but I loved it!

Ich hatte gehofft dieser Band wird besser als der erste, aber es ist eher noch langweiliger geworden. Im ersten Viertel des Buches waren die ganzen Charaktere, die ich eigentlich so gut fand, und für die ich die Reihe weitergelesen habe gar nicht da und die Storyline war einfach verwirrend. Es war immer das gleiche und dann kam aus dem Nichts etwas unerwartetes, was die Handlung aber irgendwie auch nicht weitergebracht hat. Es gab ein paar ganz gute Szenen und das Ende war sehr schön, aber ansonsten war es nicht so meins.

Namesake steht Fable in nichts nach, genau wie Teil eins ist die Geschichte fesselnd von Seite eins und lässt einen nur so durch die Handlung fliegen. Die Atmosphäre der Narrows mit all der rauen See und den geschliffenen Dolchen ist einmalig, genau wie das Gefühl von wilder Freiheit, das Adrienne Young mit ihren Beschreibungen weckt. Zusätzlich zu all der Spannung gibt es auch eine erstaunliche Charakterentwicklung bei praktisch allen schon in Band eins lieb gewonnenen Charakteren zu beobachten, vor allem bei dem einzig wahren Captain West <3 Es geht zwar nicht um Piraten, aber mit all den Plänen und Intrigen und den frechen Seeleuten kommen hier auch Fluch der Karibik Fans auf ihre Kosten. Was soll ich noch sagen? Die Fable-Dilogie ist perfekt!

Wie beim ersten Band flog ich regelrecht durch die Seiten. Denn der angenehme Schreibstil, die Spannung und die außergewöhnliche Geschichte machten es mir leicht dranzubleiben. Zügig geht es voran, aber ohne übereilt zu wirken. Zwar passiert viel und man erfährt immer mehr über Fable, ihre Mutter und ihre Herkunft allgemein. Jedoch nicht in dem Ausmaß, dass man den Überblick verlieren könnte. Manches ist nicht ganz überraschend; trotzdem gibt es einige Wendungen und Ereignisse, mit denen ich erst mal nicht rechnete. Am Ende konnte ich das Buch zufrieden aus der Hand legen, denn der Abschluss war stimmig und ließ für mich keine Fragen offen. Es ist auf jeden Fall eine Dilogie, die ich irgendwann wieder in die Hand nehmen werde. Das Einzige, was ich (nach wie vor) an diesen Büchern bedaure, ist, dass das Cover meiner Ausgabe von Band 1 nicht zu Band 2 passt.

4,5 stars I am so glad, that I finally got to read this! Fable was one of my highlights last year and this one didn't disappoint me either. I just love the way it's told and how fast one can read trough the story. Even though it took me a while to get back into story, because it seemed like I've forgotten so much about the ending of the last book xD

I have no own words to describe what I’m feeling right now. To put it in Fables words: “I closed my eyes and the slide of hot tears fell down my cheeks. For him. For me. For Isolde.” I read it in one sitting and I cried all through the last few pages. This is the ending I needed. This and no other way. Daughter... I literally still have goose bumps. FYI: West was already on my book boyfriend pile buuut he belongs to my favorites now.
