4.5 stars - half a star off for nuance. Still a life-changing read.

Informative reading for laypeople
Enjoyed reading about all the facts and information contained in the book. Although it’s veeery detailed at times and I had the feeling some things could have been shortened. Even though I really do not know anything about nutrition on a scientific basis, I really understood a lot and loved to learn about all the topics described.
plant based diet ftw! werde alle Markierungen aufbereiten und ne Guideline erstellen - danach geb ich nochmal ein rating ab :)
Very informative! It tries (and I think succeeds) to include everything important on nutrition. I especially like the chapters on the most common diseases and the last part about the daily dozen, spices, etc.
This book is my bible. Not only in size but also as my everyday guidance. It took me 1,5 years to finish it (with a lot of small and big breaks in between) after reading it on blinkist first. Even the blinks accomplished to get me fixed on a plant-based whole food diet and combined with two documentaries "Forks over knifes" and "What the health?!" this book accomplished something I never could on my own for the last five years: to completely change to a plant-based diet. As a nurse I appreciated the evidence based argumentation and the simple to understand but still scientific explanations to every single point he is trying to make. I have to admit, that I read the second part about the variety of foods and their nutritional value first, as I could implement that new found knowledge right away in my everyday life. But after that I started to read the first part where he starts with common diseases and then reverses back to their connections with our intake of animal products. There was not one chapter that I didn't take notes of and I'm starting right now to re-read these notes from the beginning again. There is so much valuable information in it - it's almost impossible to keep everything in mind, so I will continue to get out my notes every few months from now on. This is not a highly recommended read. It's a must read!
I personally really enjoyed the second part in which Dr Greger elaborates on his daily dozen. I suddenly craved berries and delicious fruits. Dr Greger bases his arguments on quotations of various studies. The essay is very well researched and provides a full analysis of foods. However, the first part was too heavy for me, personally. Reading about how food might destroy your body over time unnoticed, was very depressing. Apart from that, some facts and messages doubled. I somehow got annoyed by that. For instance, I quit eating meat but am yet not ready to go fully vegan. Regarding the language, Dr Greger obviously employs many technical terms, so have your dictionary ready if English is not your mother tongue!
