The way Laymon continued his beast house story started off as quite intriguing: telling what happened right after the end of the second book: what happened with young (and pregnant) Sandy in 1980. Parallel to the happenings back in 1980 (switching back and forth in time with the chapters), he showed how Beast House was up and running 1997. After waiting how the two narrative plot line would be woven together finally, I was actually a bit surprised. But that was basically the most positive reading moment for me. Otherwise, it read more like a love/sex/romance/drama story with a couple of ugly, graphic killings in between, but an almost total lack of suspense. A tad disappointing.
