When I first read the summary for Shine I was intrigued, horrified and I knew I had to read the book. I saw the book on Netgalley and grabbed the chance and requested it. I liked reading it at first but the more we found out about the town, the less interested I became. Especially with the language, I couldn't keep my interest up. I put reading on hold for almost 2 months, hoping I just wasn't in the right mood to read it but my opinion didn't change. I liked the main character... Cat (I had to look up her name, as I've already forgotten it), even though she was naive and reckless at times. I wanted to find out more about Patrick and who could do something so horrible to him but Shine drifted away from the main story more and more. Instead it told endless flashbacks to Cat's childhood which I didn't find compelling at all. When yet another flashback cropped up I finally decided to put this book aside 160 pages in and read the books which manage to keep my interest.
