I really loved Seannan's poetic and yet visuall writing stile again and we get some more background lore on how the world system works which was great :) but sadly for my taste the story was a bit to much for just 170 pages, since we visit more then one world I would have loved to have more time in each of them (especially the Halls of the dead, that just felt too easy).
Re-Read in 2023 I actually really like this one now and don’t get my old complaints lol I really liked this book as I do with every book in the Wayward chlildren series. But I didn't like it as much as "Every Heart A Doorway" and "Down Among To Stick And Bones" which is why my actual rating is more a 3.5 But why? That's extremely easy to answer: I'm not a fan of nonsense worlds at. all. In the first two books I found the idea of a nonsense world fantastic! A world with rainbows to walk on and everything is made of candys? Yes please! But now after reading it I realised I'm not a nonsense person. I always wanted to have an explanation and often described the story as something "that doesn't even make sense"... Yeah such an irony... In a nonsense world a strory that doesn't make sense? Unbelievable!!!1!!! So all in all the story and writing were extremely good but I just had a constant headache as I tried to get the nonsense/story, which unfortunately lowered my enjoyment a little bit.
Not quite as good as the first two installments in my opinion, but I loved seeing some characters from the first book again :)
5★ This series has convinced me that short fantasy books can be good. Cora is my new fave. Swimmers for the win.
it was nonsensical and not in a good way. i am strongly considering dropping this series, though the books are all so shorts, i may just finish them for the sake of it. also, my gf is reading the forth one now and she's saying that it's her favorite. i am kind of intrigued to check it out because of it.
Veeery low 3-star rating from me. Sadly, I did not enjoy this book as much as the last in the series. I find that I like the idea and concept of the books more than the actual execution, which is sad. I loved the atmosphere and plot of the second novella, but this one just bored me to death, and I didn't connect to any of the characters either. Sadly, I think this is the last book I will read in this series. I am just not interested anymore.
