When the Curtain Falls is set in a theatre and tells a love story both in 1952 and Present Day. You can really tell the passion and love Carrie has for theatre in the way she describes the setting. In Present Day, Olive Green and Oscar Bright are about to be the stars of a revival play called When the Curtain Falls. But strange things are happening, and they are related to the history of the theatre. In 1952, Fawn Burrows is about to make her theatre debut in the brand new play When The Curtain Falls and during her time at the theatre, she becomes close friends with the doorman assistant Walter Brown. But it isn’t as perfect as it seems because someone is not too pleased with their friendship and it sets off a tragedy. I had a hard time putting this book down. Both storylines run parallel to each other, but they fit perfectly and are also so similar yet really different! And the villain of the story literally made my skin crawl! I think that Carrie’s writing has improved a lot since OTOS and I guess that I like WTCF and ATSCS equally as much! I loved the clash of a love story and a ghost story and the atmosphere of the theatre! Now, some bits I didn’t enjoy: Like always, the names. They seem so childish to me, but I guess that is just her thing… A missing trigger warning: there are some aspects of abuse and violence in it that I didn’t expect and all, and well it could trigger someone…. The first chapter. I don’t know where to place it and I had some trouble understanding their relationship at first, like I thought they were a couple and then they didn’t know each other very well? It just was a bit hard getting into the story… And lastly: how Carrie somehow always manages to put so much of her real life relationships in her books… She always says she doesn’t but this sometimes felt like a Carrie/Oliver-fanfiction… Overall I still liked it, I just think it is important to not glorify her books just because you like her in general or as an actress!
