The way to the border
Volume 2, or the soldier arc, as I call it, is where the slowburn really takes place. The beginning might stretch a bit, but the end is soo worth it! 🤭 Laurent is going to serve at the border, as is his duty. So, the long ride through the kingdom begins, with obstacles left and right. The whole thing is, as the title suggests, kinda like a chess game between Laurent and his opponent; each making strategic moves and trying to outplay each other, with Damen being the wild card in-between, not knowing the scale of their moves. Seriously, he is gagged when he finds out certain things (I was too) 😂 I just love their dynamic here; how their relationship grows. They work together out of necessity, but there are these little moments when something more is peaking through. And it's not just them that are getting closer. I also loved getting to know the soldiers of the Prince's guard a bit more. My favorite is obviously Jord 😌 I love how loyal they are to their prince, even though they think he is as cold as ice 😂 The things surrounding the end of the volume are just the best. THIS is how you do enemies to lovers and dramatic reveals. I always get goosebumps at the last sentence. Truly a masterpiece, and it's not even the best volume yet 🤭
