IT WAS A BLAST!
According to my dad, it was funny to watch my facial expressions change from shock to laughter and everything in between while reading, which actually sums this (unironically) amazingly entertaining read up pretty accurately: I was shooting my eyebrows up as Vera put out the most vogue, helpful advice ever, while in her very next sentence dumping the most absurd, conservative opinion on us (but that’s okay for me because it's Vera). I felt my heart grow warmer by a few degrees each time Vera bribed someone (successfully) with her mouthwatering Chinese food, took these lost souls under her wings, and changed their lives decidedly for the better. I laughed whenever she told some “authority” figure that she’s their elder, so they have to listen to her — no matter if they’re the police or the damn president. I gasped (only a little bit tbh, as the plot was low-key foreseeable) once a new twist was laid out before us. Fun and games apart, Jesse Q. Sutanto voiced a few topics (no spoilers here) that we as a society — myself included — aren’t aware enough of. To sum it up: this book was AMAZING and even topped the first one.
