Cozy feel-good romance

These adorable trauma-ridden cinnamon rolls have made me laugh and squeal and cry (good god, I've cried so many times) and I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I really, really felt for these stubborn and precious dorks. And I definitely felt my age bc whenever a certain character, that is very much a child, had to switch on "adult mode" to be the parental figure that's missing in his family, I just about bawled my eyes out and I think something like that wouldn't have touched me as much some years ago. I love to see bi representation in YA books and was delighted to read about a diverse set of characters although I have to add that there's not a lot of representation going on except for dropping the information "this character is ace", "these characters are gay" etc.. I choose to attest the lack of attention to these labels to the way this (sadly fictional) very open society looks at gender and sexuality: in a way in which these things are just as normal a part of a person as any other feature and therefore it's not something put focus on more than, say, the color of one's hair. In any case, I'm happy that there is some kind of representation in a book addressed to young readers To summarize, this has probably been the cutest YA romance I've read this year. Although really predictable, it's cozy, it's frustrating, it's so funny and it gives you all the feels. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a heartwarming read.

„You didn’t start dating Jonah because you liked him. You started dating him because how much you hated him.“

The enemies to lover trope AND the fake dating trope? Hell yeah, I'm in. I read the book not expecting anything special. Just a sweet little romance and well, that's it. I loved their dynamic. They really hated each other (I would hate him too if he gave me a +4 in Uno), and then they slowly developed feelings for each other, which was Chef's Kiss. It was great that they didn't love each other out of nowhere like in some books. They needed time to actually develop feelings. You can see that they became more and more important to each other. (Dylan apologized quite often, was supportive, and tried not to let their "fake relationship" fall apart. Jonah, you could have been more understanding of him you ass.) Jonah and Dylan's backstories were... well, I have to say, kind of... mid? It was a bit of a cliché. Still, I enjoyed reading it. I also really enjoyed learning some fun facts about the galaxy, but like Jonah WDYM when you say the planet Pluto is only about half the width of the United States??? I was literally so shocked that I had to look it up. (Some days after reading: I haven't stopped yapping about the space facts from Jonah, so my father bought me a space projector. (╥﹏╥) )

This is definitely a new favorite. This book had everything. It was enemies to lovers. It had fake dating, and it had the one bed trope. Let me tell you, though, it was a rollercoaster of emotions. The book had a quick pace, which I definitely enjoyed. The book had me in a chokehold, and the references and heartstopper vibes made it even cooler.

I love the enemys to lovers trope that’s why I bought it. I expected it to be a funy lighthearted romance novel but it was so much more. I loved the character development of both of them. I also have to admit I‘ve cried a bit for bith boys. 100% recommendation to everyone who wants a fun romance read with also real characters full of their flaws.

Enemies to lovers and fake dating

Two tropes, where I love the first one and am not a big fan of the second one. It doesn't stop me from reading a book, though, and I am glad I read this one. It's not a big highlight or anything, more like a light read, but I had fun with it and even got a bit emotional. Jonah and Dylan hate each other. Their friends, on the other hand, think that is only on the surface, and actually, they would make a great couple. The two are so annoyed by their constant nagging that they don't deny it when they think something happened between them on homecoming night when Jonah slept over at Dylans (he actually wanted to fight him and passed out on his bed, tired after being drunk). So they decide fake-dating and then breaking up in a staged fight would stop their friends' remarks. As I already said, I am not a fan of the fake-dating trope, as it hardly ever makes sense to me. Same here. Why their friends were suddenly convinced something happened between them, just because they slept at the same house (while hating each other) is beyond me and why it bothered them so much they would go through with this. Also, why they hated each other in the first place was also a bit vague and hard to believe, being in the same friend group and all, but I guess not totally unrealistic. That's just the thing with enemies to lovers. It works best with other genres like fantasy, where they are actually enemies with reasons behind it and not just mildly annoyed with each other because of miscommunication. That sounds all kinda negative, but I just wanted to get that all out before I talked about why I liked it anyway. I don't care much about a setup if it's well executed, and I like the characters, which I did. With Dylan, it took me a while until I warmed up to him, but he is a really sweet guy. Jonah, I loved as soon as we got to know more about his, sadly not that good, living situation. The way he took care of his sisters just melted my heart. I just love characters that take care of others (even though it's frustrating when they can't accept help for themselves) 🥺. So it was great to see them really getting to know and helping each other in the end ❤️ All in all, a book that was (besides some drama/kinda heavy topics) still more of a cozy read, at least for me. Nothing too big, but a feel-good read with no queerphobia and plenty of good representation (bi main characters, an asexual and a trans side character).
