As a lesbian I feel like Jond's horny POV was not needed but as a lesbian I also liked Jond's cat. The worldbuilding and magic system in this series were really great. But I had some trouble to connect with the main characters. Sylah and Anoor's relationship felt really strange to me. They kissed like once in the first book and then didn't see each other over the span of 1.75 books. There was a lot of yearning but for what? The one kiss they shared? They acted like they've known the other for years and not just a few months. There seriously was more chemistry between Jond and that one girl I can't remember the name of (not Kara). The multiple POV's during the war scene were also weird. Why are we getting a POV of a cat?
not as great as i expected (SPOILER ALERT)
Urghhh I really don't know what to say. I loved the Final Strife and though I was a bit disappointed by the Battle Drum, I was still super excited to read the third part. What I loved: the parts of the story taking place on the mainland. While I found all the new world building info in the Battle Drum to be overwhelming, I really enjoyed it in this one. Following Jond on his search in finding purpose and allies was one of the best bits of this book, imo. The best part was Hassa's storyline! It was predictable in places, yes, but I LOVED reading about it, she remained my favorite character from start to finish. Sylah's parts were okay, but I hated Anoor's. Not because they weren't well done, just because it was so angsty and desolate, with nothing that made me enjoy it. It was just horrible to read, despite being realistic/well-written. And then I also felt like it was not properly resolved. The first book of the trilogy spends so much time on character development and this book just... doesn't? Characters change from one page to another and it's never talked about. And then the ending. Omg. What IS THAT? Is it an open ending? Are they supposed to be dead? If yes, I HATE IT. If no, then it's just a bad way to end the book. Sorry not sorry. So, while I really enjoyed the overall way the story played out and couldn't stop reading, especially during the final battle, there are some flaws that made me not enjoy it as much as I hoped...
