After reading a review of a friend I was curious to read this book and even though I didn't like every aspect I enjoyed myself overall. It might look and sound like a romance, and in parts it is, but mostly it's a story about sisterhood, family, making new life choices and life in a small town community, sprinkled with a bit of magic. I liked how no character was rigid, though some appeared like that in the beginning, and how the grew with and around each other. My criticism mainly refers to some aspects not having aged well, like racist expressions and some views on women. But overall it was a nice book, quick to read despite its slightly peculiar narrative style.
