I really thought I was going to like this book much better than I did in the end. But even though the book wasn't exactly what I've imagined in the beginning, there's are some things to like in The Accident Season. Alice and Sam especially were beautifully drawn characters. Both were by far my favorites. Also the story is original. It's different to the things I usually read and the concept is pretty good, I have to admit. However it wasn't spooky enough for me. The reason why I wanted to read this book in the first place was because fall just came across, September just started and Halloween isn't that far anymore. I love this time of the year, it's my favorite to be exact and I usually try to only read supernatural/spooky books in the months of September and October. This is actually the reason why I wanted to read this one so bad. Also I've heard some good things about it, especially on Instagram and I thought I'd just give it a try. Sadly the book couldn't quite win me over. I loved the combination of so many different genres, especially all that supernatural stuff and the magical realism. But I did find parts of the story to be slow, making the book sort of sluggish. At times I just got the feeling that the whole story wasn't quite elaborated; like some things were missing. It seemed like the author just put together snippets and ideas but couldn't find a way to put all ot these ideas together and form them to something bigger. Also I found this book really weird, which I usually like but in this case sometimes I just didn't quite get what the author wanted to tell. I mean weird is good, weird is different and different is good because it's special but the thing is that it doesn't feel memorable or any way special. At times I just wanted the book to be over, I just kept reading because I wanted to finish it. I'm also missing a proper explanation why all these accidents happened. I know what was said in the end but still, it wasn't enough for me. The book just doesn't seem finished. The Accident Season was okay, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be and definitely not as mind-blowing as I had hoped but I don't regret reading it. It was a nice read for this time of the year even though I'm pretty sure I won't remember much of the story. Rating: 2.5 stars
