It’s a rare occasion but I loved this wonderful sequel as much as I loved the first book! The War I Finally Won is an emotional rollercoaster. I cried, I dreaded, I felt proud. The story comes back to Ada and Jamie, living with their legal guardian, Susan. Events happen, that the first book has lead up to, new characters are introduced, new friendships bloom. The Thorntons family members become regulars! We get more interactions and tension between Ada and the villagers and see Jamie mature. The children face the worst war and personal tragedies. WWII reality is seamlessly knit into the story. The story arc is great! Ada is such a powerful character. Kimberly B. Bradley writes so compelling and doesn’t shy away from sensitive topics like child abuse, anxiety, rage, loss. It is the first time that I’ve read such believable and captivating mind of a child. The book explores definitions of trust and family. It left me emotional and wanting a third book. Make sure to pick up The War that Saved My Life first. The narrator did a great job on the audiobooks too! Def. a recommendation for historical WWII fiction.
