Irgendwie bin ich bis zum Ende nicht so richtig in die Geschichte reingekommen und konnte auch keine Verbindung zu den Charakteren aufbauen, sodass es zwar Spaß gemacht hat zu hören, aber ich wahrscheinlich in einigen Wochen nichts mehr über die Geschichte weiß. Ich weiß aber auch nicht so recht, woran es genau lag, ob am Schreibstil, den Charakteren oder generell der Geschichte

I thought this would be a short and exciting read, but sadly for me it wasn't. I don't know anything about Beowulf so I don't know how this one is connected to those poems or just very lovely inspired and I can't really comment on that. What I can say though, is, that it really has the feeling of an epic story to it. There's a journey, different steps along that, which teach the characters things and give them new information and then there is the end goal and with it a monster to defeat. Along the way the characters tell their stories and those of the land around them and they are really interesting, I just didn't feel for them. The characters in this book somehow escaped me. I felt their love for each other but I myself never felt anything towards them. It really was like reading one of those old stories, where the people in it are just there to experience epic adventures and not to be deep characters. They were fleshed out in there way, I just felt no connection to them whatsoever. The world itself is interesting and I enjoyed the parts of northern mythology that were thrown in and changed for the story. Especially the parts about the witches really caught my attention. Overall, the story was just too slow for me. There wasn't much excitement and I felt like many chapters were just filler. Still, I think if one is into these kinds of epic stories and retellings and maybe more into Beowulf, this is definitely an intriguing story with a very promising premise.
