When I picked "Blackouts" up, I expected it would make me sad because of the reality of being to afraid to step out of the closet - but here I am now, sad because of the reality of people who had the courage to step out of the closet in the mid-20th-century (especially women who were treated like shit by men who took the research on gay women as an excuse to turn themselves on 🙄) -> The book is more complex than what I've written here but its hard to describe tbh
